My paintings are deeply personal but aim for universality, with self portrait based characters representing the women, animals and made up characters representing the men, and the work
showing the many things we do and have done to us. Their (our) worlds spin out of control, intruded by symbolic spilled purses, toxic clouds and deflated monster suits. Though these
situations and icons are cartoonish in effect I hope that they are psychologically complex. The themes are competition, loneliness, fear, work, and city vs. nature. The paintings themselves split onto multiple surfaces, the scenes break off at the ends, veer to the sides and reflect an internal world full of mishaps and dilemmas. Things lurk, invade, and collide, narratives spill into other narratives and the world outside the painting hovers ominously, just waiting for the next
