My work responds to the humanity in and of everyday life. I started taking note of the intricacies and nuances of the lives of people in the street during my upbringing as a biracial kid in Queens. Growing up, I struggled with being singled out in class  for being different while still proud of my Puerto Rican blood, so I could never quite find where I fit in society. Often I would observe my surroundings in school and on the street and would think to myself if I belonged. With the camera, I overcame the barriers of difference and identity that had previously felt insurmountable. In my photos I explore people from multiple cultural, economic, and social backgrounds, capturing intimate moments that aren’t visible from the surface. Through my personal experiences and observations I have pieced together these familiar images, and my photographs make them into a reality. - Nicholas Busigo
