Roger Nelson

Nelson is a landscape and cityscape painter whose pictures often feature trees in starring roles, isolated like solo dancers upon the sunlit stages of rolling Midwestern fields.Roger Nelson lived on the Bowery for most of his life painting the rooftops and neighborhood trees throughout the years.

Roger Nelson's oil paintings are meticulously figured out ahead of time with sketches and painted studies. He is particularly interested in patterns (such as the shadows cast from the trees) and rhythm (as the flowing repetition of the planted fields). The deep bluish-purple under-shadows give his paintings a surreal feeling and also seem to add a level of intensity.
